Preamble To The U.S. Constitution

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Thomas Jefferson, March 4, 1801

[A] wise and frugal government... shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.

Mississippi Voter ID Ballot Initiative Petition Drive

By admin

On October 20th, 2009, MeridianTeaParty.com invited Jeppie Barbour of the Mississippi Republican Party to come and tell our members about their effort to gather 110,000 signatures on petitions prior to February 14th, 2010 to include a ballot initiative in 2011 to make Voter ID part of the Mississippi Constitution.

The MeridianTeaParty.com’s board and membership have agreed that this is an important effort and one that we can support in our part of the state. To that end, until November 17th, MeridianTeaParty.com members will be passing out petitions and asking for signatures.

On Tuesday, November 17th, MeridianTeaParty.com will hold another public meeting at the EMEPA Auditorium to gather all the signed petitions collected and present them to Jeppie Barbour who will return to speak to us and receive the results of our efforts that night.

Blank petitions are currently available at the following locations:

If you would like to have some petitions to pass out at your business, contact us here and we’ll add your business to this page! MeridianTeaParty.com is very interested in placing petitions in businesses on the West and North sides of Meridian.

To make collection signatures a little more competitive and exciting, prizes will be given to the following top signature getters:

  • First Place: Dinner For Two Gift Certificate for a local restuarant.
  • Second Place: Lunch For Two Gift Certificate for a local restuarant.
  • Third Place: Free Movie Passes for Two

Finally, to give everyone a chance to win, there will be a Wild Card Winner for a free night’s stay at the Lion & Harp Bed & Breakfast! To qualify, simply gather 25 signatures and your name will be entered into the Wild Card Drawing!

There may be more wild card prizes coming soon, and we will announce them here, so check back often!

This is a major opportunity for everyone to help change Mississippi for the better and for our state to be a shining example of true and fair democracy.

Harry,

You can stop by at any of the locations listed above and they all have petitions available for the public to sign and blank petitions that you can take with you to get signatures from your friends and family. Please take the time to do this. Signing the petition doesn’t obligate anyone to anything, but if we get enough signatures, it will guarantee that we will all have the chance to vote on this critical issue in 2011.

You can either take them to Donna Jill Johnson’s office and have them certified or take them to Graphic Printers on Hwy 11/80 and we’ll get them to Donna Jill. Thanks for all the hard work everyone is doing! These are exciting times and this is an exciting project to be a part of!

Due to a conflict with the EMEPA Annual Meeting, we were only able to secure the auditorium for November 17th NOT the 19th. Please update your calendars to reflect this change. The time, date, and location posted on this page is correct. Further information will be posted regarding the event as plans are firmed up by the Events Committee so check back to this page often! We will also be sending out email notices next week to make sure everyone has the correct information.

I have ten names to turn in at the meeting next Tuesday.

11

I have about 40 signatures

12

I have 10 names and hope to get more.

Is this petition available on line?

14

Unfortunately the way the original law was written, the petition was only available in hard copy. The good news is that this morning, we reached the state-wide goal of 20000+ signatures in each of five districts. The petitions will be delivered tomorrow at 2:00pm at the Secretary of State’s office for final confirmation that the initiative will appear on the 2011 ballot.

John Adams, 1765

Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
