We might as well get used to it. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Haiti will become our de facto 51st state for quite a long time. It was destitute and functionally ungoverned (maybe ungovernable) beforehand. Since Papa Doc Duvalier, the Ton Ton Macoute, Baby Doc, several military dictatorships and the leftist, Aristede, there has been nothing but mayhem, poverty and sickness – beginning with its achieving its – dysfunctional – independence.

As Americans, we can expect vilification from our so-called international "partners" in spite of – maybe because of – of our charitable activities in Haiti. But help them we will. And, I suppose we should.

The left, while we are saving lives and rebuilding Haiti, will prefer to "all hold hands in a circle and sing 'kumbaya'" while burning a few more of our flags as we proceed –as we always do – trying to bail out yet another failed state.
