Last year, Jackson, MS residents joined together to form The Mississippi Tea Party. The newly minted organization was incorporated as a 501c(4) non-profit and was tasked to function as the local tea party for Jackson and surrounding areas. The Mississippi Tea Party held several very successful rallies in Jackson and participated in various projects along with many other Tea Party groups around the state including MeridianTeaParty.com.

The formation and growth of the Tea Party movement across the United States has been nothing short of miraculous. Every day citizens are coming together in communities, towns and cities to form various groups with the common goals of liberty, freedom, fiscal responsibility and a constitutionally limited government.

Mississippi has experienced that same growth and the time has come to connect the various groups throughout the state in order to create a stronger voice for political action and representation. Therefore, the current legal structure, name and web site of the central Mississippi tea party, officially known as “The Mississippi Tea Party”, will be transitioned into a new statewide organization through a planned state convention, with representatives from many of the organizations throughout the state. The various groups have been cooperating, sharing resources and working together for several months. Most recently, their efforts have been largely credited with obtaining over 130,000 signatures from around the state on a petition to place a photo Voter ID law on the ballot in 2011.

While participation will be voluntary, it is hoped that most, if not all, of the current groups agree to participate in the state convention, finalize the draft constitution that has been proposed, and ratify a new Constitution for the now united Mississippi Tea Party. The state convention has been scheduled for April 30 – May 1, 2010 and will be held in the Jackson area. At the end of the convention, the existing leadership of The Mississippi Tea Party will turn over the reigns of the group to the newly elected officers and then become the leadership of the brand new Central Mississippi Tea Party.

Five Tea Party Groups have been invited to be Charter Chapters of The Mississippi Tea Party and these five groups have been asked to send 5 delegates to Jackson for a two-day convention to create the By-Laws of the new state-wide organization and to elect officers and board members from the attending delegates. Committees will also be formed at this time. MeridianTeaParty.com is honored to have been invited as one of the Charter Chapters and the MeridianTeaParty.com Board has agreed to participate.

MeridianTeaParty.com will continue to operate as it always has and will retain it’s independence and complete autonomy from The Mississippi Tea Party. The goal of The Mississippi Tea Party will be to improve communications between the various Tea Party and 9-12 groups around the State by creating and enhancing the network between groups. Ultimately, the Mississippi Tea Party will publicly represent all Tea Party/9-12 groups within the state on issues that the groups agree on.

It is the belief of the Board of MeridianTeaParty.com that the key to future success is to build links to other Tea Party groups and sharing information equally. We cannot continue depending on the mainstream media to let us know about candidates such at Scott Brown or Mark Rubio. They will learn if they haven’t already that the more accurate information we have the more powerful Tea Party groups will become. Therefore, it is our responsibility to connect to those who believe the same way we do and to leverage the individual strengths of our separate groups and to speak with one voice whenever possible. For example, MeridianTeaParty.com counts it’s membership around 500, but just the five charter chapters of the new Mississippi Tea Party can truthfully claim a state-wide membership of close to 5,000 members. This association of Tea Party groups will make it easier to approach statewide media and will give each chapter access to resources and manpower greater than we might achieve individually.

We have posted the proposed by-laws of The Mississippi Tea Party here and you can download them, review them and send your suggestions for changes to theguru@MeridianTeaParty.com. We have also posted a poll on www.MeridianTeaParty.com to get a sense of your reaction to all of this. Feel free to send us any questions you may have and we’ll try to put together a list of all the questions and answers and publish them for everyone. This message will be published on our website and you can post your comments or questions there as well.

If you are a member of MeridianTeaParty.com and would like to participate as one of our delegates to the By-Laws Convention in Jackson, please contact us here. If we get more than five volunteers, we’ll come up with a way to select the five delegates at our March meeting (TBA).

If you are not careful, all the politics and craziness coming out of Washington, D.C. are enough to get you down. Sometimes, it is good to stand back and get some perspective; otherwise, it will make you want to just give up and give in. When that happens to me, I find it helps to remind myself of why I’m fighting to keep my Freedom. It’s really very simple. I love my Country and I love the State of Mississippi and I love the life both have enabled me with God’s help to build for myself and my family. In the end, I just want to deserve the many blessings I’ve given.

So, take a few minutes and enjoy one of Mississippi’s Favorite Sons as he sings about just some of the things we all love about our home.

To Whom It May Concern:

It has come to my attention that even though We The People have made our preference for you to leave our health care system alone, you have now decided to attempt to ram this boondoggle down our throats using any means at your disposal. We have voiced our negative opinion of your approach to health care reform and you’ve ignored us. We have marched in the streets of Washington, D.C. and you’ve turned a blind eye and a deaf ear. We’ve made telephone calls, signed petitions, and recruited our friend and family to work with us to defeat this bill at every opportunity and you’ve continued tried to march us toward the socialism that you seem so desperate bring to America.

For more than 60 years, you have worked to subvert our Constitution, transfer the wealth of our working families to non-producers, and sold our children’s future to fund your re-election efforts. The goal for you has always been the raw, unadulterated power associated with being elites within a two-class system. You claim that the have’s must be converted to have not’s while you secretly plundered the treasury of this Country for your own personal gain. You have put your personal good ahead of the good of America and you’ve given yourselves over to the lusts of your intellects.

You have assumed that the ends justify the means and you’ve believed that somehow you know better than We The People how to rule this Nation and you’ve done everything possible to position yourselves to be at the top of the food chain when you finally get your way. Every time your ideas are tried they have failed. You accuse others of having impure motives while working your own impure motives overtime. You’ve selected Judges to subvert the rule of law. You’ve appointed haters of American Values as the heads of your bureaucracies. You’ve elected (often through cheating) those who would blindly follow the Liberal agenda and when they’ve out-lived their usefulness, you’ve worked to replace them with Liberal partisans who are just as blind as those they replace.

I am only one American and I have no resources and I have no power, save one: my vote. And I can promise you one thing, should you push Health Care Reform through after we’ve made our feelings clear over and over again, I will vote against you every chance I have and I will work with every fiber of my being to convince as many people as possible to join me in my mission of sending you home and preventing liberals from ever gaining power in the Country again. You will ignore my promise, or toss it aside as a “threat”, but do not doubt my resolve. I have not forgotten that our Founding Fathers gave us a Republic, and the responsibility to protect it for the next generation.

Ignore me if you want. Laugh at me if you will. You will not do so after November, 2010.

Sincerely,

An American Citizen

Based on speeches such as this one, Phillip decided to throw his hat into the ring and run for Congress to represent District 5 of Alabama.

Les Phillip is a conservative, Republican candidate for the Fifth Congressional District of Alabama. A native of Trinidad-Tobago and the son of immigrant parents, Phillip became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1978. He is a former aviator for the U.S. Navy and an experienced operational manager. After leaving the Navy, Les entered the private sector where he has owned businesses and worked in sales, marketing, project management and operations.

His past professional experience includes Arrow Electronics in Huntsville, AL, where he successfully increased sales and implemented cost-saving processes for the company. At Vulcan Materials in Birmingham, Les implemented process improvements and strategic solutions for the company, resulting in more efficient operations. As a candidate for Congress, Les has a passion for defending the Constitution, protecting the freedom we hold dear and restoring America’s conservative values.

Here’s his campaign commercial released in December, 2009:

At the moment all five districts have exceeded their targets. Districts 1 and 2 and 3 all have comfortable margins (over 22,000). District 4 has just over 20,000 and District 5 has over 21,000. There are several hundred more in the Clerks’ offices in all 5 districts and the certified totals for all will rise. We can reasonably expect that every district will exceed 22,000. A lot of you have done a lot of work and some of you have done very, very much work. It took the teamwork of all of you and your volunteers and our friends from the Tea Party and the other Patriot groups to get this done.

I must ask you to round up every signature that is on a kitchen table or on the counter of a business. We owe it to the volunteers to get them turned in, even if there is not time to certify them. Please send in (by mail or by hand) everything which you can find. Also, please check with the Circuit Clerk and try to get all the petitions that are in the Clerk’s office sent on to us. Please check whatever the Clerk hands you and be sure that they are ours and not from the Personhood* group. We want to get all petitions, certified and uncertified, in to Jackson headquarters this week.

Right now we plan to deliver our petitions to the Secretary of State at 2 pm on Thursday the 11th. You’re welcome to come and to invite anyone who has helped. Let me say that we probably won’t need your help in getting the petitions turned in but we will welcome your company. To our College Republican leaders – you’re included in this invitation. So are your helpers.

To all of you, all over the state, and from all groups – thanks for your work.

I know this is probably a little off-topic, but maybe not too far. I’ve heard and read in the past few weeks some of our world “neighbors” complaining about America’s response to Haiti. Other countries have complained that we are trying to take over Haiti or that we are somehow trying to capitalize on their crisis via our swift intervention. There have always been those who criticize this country no matter what we do. There have always been those who think that we are the wealthiest (not in a good way) country and that we “lord” it over others. And yet, even in the worst economy that I’ve seen in the last 30 years, Americans are giving and giving and giving.

Gordon Sinclair

I’m reminded of a speech given by Canadian Gordon Sinclair in 1973 regarding Americans during the severe economic crisis affecting the United States at the time. The dollar was sinking fast and the world was taking great pleasure at the time watching America finally get their “come-uppance”. On a radio broadcast from Ontario, Canada, Sinclair took to the airwaves in praise of America and their giving spirit.

We would do well to listen to his words again and remember to hold our heads high as we work through the current economic down times and the craziness coming out of Washington, D.C. If our Apologist In Chief, BHO can’t bring himself to be our cheerleader, then perhaps a Canadian can.

Speech Transcription:

The United States dollar took another pounding on German, French, and British exchanges this morning, hitting the lowest point ever known in West Germany. It has declined there by 41% since 1971, and this Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous, and possibly the least-appreciated, people in all the world.

As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtze. Well who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did, that’s who.

They have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges, and the Niger. Today, the rich bottom land of the Mississippi is under water and no foreign land has sent a dollar to help. Germany, Japan, and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of those countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. And I was there — I saw that. When distant cities are hit by earthquake, it is the United States that hurries into help, Managua, Nicaragua, is one of the most recent examples.

So far this spring, fifty-nine American communities have been flattened by tornadoes. Nobody has helped.

The Marshall Plan, the Truman Policy, all pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. And now, newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, war-mongering Americans.

Now, I’d like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplanes.

Come on now, you, let’s hear it! Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tristar, or the Douglas 10? If so, why don’t they fly them? Why do all international lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or a woman on the moon?

You talk about Japanese technocracy and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times, and, safely home again. You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everyone to look at. Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They’re right here on our streets in Toronto. Most of them, unless they’re breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend up here.

When the Americans get out of this bind — as they will — who could blame them if they said “the hell with the rest of the world.” Let somebody else buy the bonds. Let somebody else build or repair foreign dams, or design foreign buildings that won’t shake apart in earthquakes.” When the railways of France, and Germany, and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both of ‘em are still broke.

I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name to me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I am one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them kicked around. They’ll come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they’re entitled to thumb their noses at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of these. But there are many smug, self-righteous Canadians.

And finally, the American Red Cross was told at its 48th Annual meeting in New Orleans this morning that it was broke.

This year’s disasters — with the year less than half-over — has taken it all. And nobody, but nobody, has helped.
