Senator Cochran Followup
Last week, MeridianTeaParty.com sent out a “CallToAction” alert requesting everyone to contact their Senators regarding the Sotomayor Nomination as well as the Hate Crimes Bill. In the course of people making calls to Senator Wicker and Senator Cochran, we received reports that while Wicker’s office was very friendly and supportive, Cochran’s office was abrupt and not very helpful. Yesterday, on a hunch, TheGuru contacted one of Senator Cochran’s district offices in Mississippi to see if he got the same treatment.
The difference was astounding! TheGuru spoke with a nice lady named Ann who was very concerned hearing the stories about the attitude and abruptness of the person who answering calls in the Washington Office. Ann promised to get the information to the proper people. She asked for all of TheGuru’s contact information and then spent some time on the phone expressing her concerns about the future of America and the fate of small business owners who will possibly be faced with overwhelming tax burdens. She was kind and interested and she stated that if anyone preferred to speak with Cochran’s local offices instead of the Washington office they are welcomed to do so and all their comments will be forwarded to Washington each night. Ann also stated in no uncertain terms that they were receiving overwhelming numbers of calls from the public railing against Cap & Trade, Health Care Reform, Hate Crimes Legislation, Sotomayor, and Gun Control. It would seem that the natives ARE restless and they ARE making their voices heard!
Ann agreed that the problem we face is not necessarily in convincing Mississippi Senators to listen to their constituents (this obviously does not apply to Bennie Thompson!), we must also be working Senators & Representatives in other states to do the same. Therefore, we cannot emphasize the importance of contacting your family and friends in other states and ask them to do what we are clearly doing in Missisippi: Make Their Voices Heard! Spread the word by forwarding our “CallToAction email alerts to them and encourage them to subscribe to MeridianTeaParty.Com. The information provided by the site and the alerts is useful anywhere in the United States. We all share the same concerns and we must all raise our voice as one!
We are also asking any of you who can help do some of the research to locate and identify House of Representative Members and Senators who are potentially weak links that we can help focus pressure on. Barack Obama is working on these people very hard and he has the power of the Treasury behind him. We have got to support organizations in those districts to help those elected officials remember it’s not about the money, it’s about the people. If you can find any information regarding specific officials in other states, please send it to theguru@meridianteaparty.com and we’ll try to put together a list to help guide everyone else’s efforts.
