Preamble To The U.S. Constitution

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Thomas Jefferson, March 4, 1801

[A] wise and frugal government... shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.

Health Care Reform

In case there are any insomniacs out there, we wanted to let you know that we have the complete text of the Health Care Reform Act (HR #676) posted on the MeridianTeaParty.com website for you review, read, digest or whatever. If any of you are brave souls and you want to read the whole thing and report back to us on what you find it would be appreciated. I’ve personally been reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand for the last two months and it’s 1,100 pages long while the Health Care Bill is only 1,018 pages so it shouldn’t be too much trouble for you speed-readers.

We got a tip from one of our subscribers that problems have been found with the bill on page 16, so you may also want to read the opinion piece posted by Investors Business Daily that we linked to. It appears that the only choice you’ll have to make in regards to health care is whether you want to keep your existing policy or switch to the government’s policy. You see, on page 16 of the bill, there is language that outlaws the selling of private insurance policies with effective dates after the date the law goes into effect. Maybe they are trying to make it simple for people to understand. There’s also some language that states that no private policies can be written that duplicate the provisions of the government policy. I understood that this government plan was to compete in the marketplace against other insurance carriers, but I guess competition means something different in Washington D.C. because if no insurance company can duplicate the coverage AND they can’t lawfully write new policies after the law goes into effect how can that possibly be competition? Isn’t that a monopoly?

The file is in a pdf form and you can get it here: http://www.meridianteaparty.com/index.php/hr-676-americas-affordable-health-choices-act-of-2009-full-text/

John Adams, 1765

Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
