Recently I posted an article titled “Exposing Leftists” where I showed you the work of three young guys who took faux petitions around colleges such as UC Berkeley and CSU Fresno and asked questions like “Would you sign a petition to ban conservative talk radio hosts such as Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck?” or “Would you sign a pledge to pay your fair share of the national debt?”
When I posted the original story, I basically left it to the reader to draw their own conclusions about the statements made by the individuals featured in the videos. However, to be fair, the thumbnail on the story did include the words “Looney Left.”
Now there is a new video out that was released by the Media Research Center that takes the same kind of faux petition around in Washington D.C. In this video the question was whether the individual would sign a petition banning conservative websites such as the DrudgeReport.com, BigGovernment.com and HotAir.com. Once again the people on the street were young and from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. One difference in this video is that they included a couple of people who turned down the opportunity to sign which I found somewhat refreshing. In fact, I’d really like to know how many people they had to interview before they found people who would actually agree to sign the petition. But I still think the videos are instructive. Watch the video and then read my final comments.
The question that still bothers me is expressed by the guy in the video who does not sign the petition because he reads the DrudgeReport.com. His immediate rejection of the petition makes me wonder if the people featured in these videos are really leftists or ignorant dupes. If these people on the street are real leftists then we can only hope that there are not as many of them as the video left me thinking there were. On the other hand, if the majority of these people are simply ignorant dupes there still hope that their ignorance will be cured at some point the future.
The final question we are left with is this: If we presume that most liberals/leftists are ignorant dupes, what can we do to reach out to them, show them truth they will accept and start them on the path with baby steps along a new path?
I do not presume to know the answer to that question because the truth is usually something they will only accept with proof. Reagan spoke of America as a shining city on a hill and conservatives had no problem accepting this as truth because we already believed and had faith in the ideal Reagan was describing. We had the same faith in Reagan’s words that liberals seem to have in Obama. So how is it that we can see the untruths and they can’t?
